Deputy Minister for Counter-Narcotics Meets with UNODC Representatives for Afghanistan

Alhaj Lieutenant General Mullah Abdul Haq Akhund, Deputy Minister for Counter-Narcotics at the Ministry of Interior Affairs, met in Vienna with Mr. Bo Mathiasen, Head of Operations of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and Mr. Polik Ok Serei, UNODC Country Representative for Afghanistan.

During the meeting, the Deputy Minister expressed his appreciation for UNODC’s continued support in the fight against narcotics and shared recent activities and achievements of the Counter-Narcotics Deputy Ministry with the representatives.

Mr. Akhund called on UNODC to further enhance its support in key areas such as alternative livelihoods, treatment of drug addicts, and the collection and rehabilitation of drug users. In response, the UNODC delegation commended the efforts of the Deputy Ministry and reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing collaboration. The delegation also pledged additional support for farmers and further assistance in the rehabilitation of individuals suffering from drug addiction.
